CHANDIGARH: In a significant development, targeted to bring down the number of murders committed out of enmity,
Haryana police have started mapping past
enmity cases. The recent murders in
Sonipat,
Ambala and NCR are said to be the reason why the police
top brass decided on this.
Until July 15, the police will join the dots that are found in various reports and develop a strategy to prevent such unfortunate incidents.
Additional director general of police (DGP) law and order, Navdeep Singh Virk said under this drive, police will systematically study the police records to spot such potential cases .
DGP Manoj Yadava has directed the commissioners of police and district superintendents of police to depute a special team of dedicated police officers under their direct supervision to compile a database of such potential cases.
Virk said such incidents come under unpreventable category, where a trivial issue suddenly takes an ugly shape. Analysis of recent cases of murders in the past few weeks in several districts shows that the past enmity has led to several murders.
There have been instances where gangs have targeted family members of their rival gang or witnesses. “This is an area of grave concern and we are working on this. Getting prior information about such cases will help to prevent them,” added Virk.
