Ludhiana: After waiting for almost a month, people from Odisha living in Ludhiana will make Lord Jagannath sit on a chariot and move in the area for Rath Yatra on Thursday. For this, they have made all the arrangements. Oriyas who have settled in the city several years ago organise this yatra in the same way as it is done in Puri. On a similar pattern, Lord Jagannath, his brother Balram, and sister Subhadra come out of the temple among their devotees, and stay at their aunt’s place for a few days, before they come back to the temple.
Anand Nagar resident Surinder Kumar Pardhan shared: “We are excited about the celebrations because the Lord visits his devotees to shower blessings on everybody. If some people cannot visit the temple, they can participate in this yatra, and Lord Jagannath will fulfil all their wishes.” He said they would pull the chariot and take it to the maternal aunt of the Lord at Gundicha Temple, where the Lord will stay until July 11, and on July 12, they will bring His chariot back to the temple, but He will enter the temple only on July 15.
Lajpat Nagar resident and businessman Dayanidhi Bhuyian said: “We wait for this yatra throughout the year, and when it takes place, the enthusiasm among devotees is worth seeing. Everybody gets excited and participates in the event with full devotion.” Dayanidhi had come to the city in 1979, and despite staying away from the household, he ensures he never misses this yatra. He said they organise this yatra to follow their traditions, and also impart the rituals among their children.
This yatra is not restricted only to Oriyas, but Punjabis too participate in great numbers. Devotee Pawan Sharma has been making all necessary arrangements regarding permissions from different government departments. He said: “It gives me immense pleasure to participate in this yatra as Lord Jagannath is the only God who always keeps his eyes open so that not even a single prayer from his devotees should go unattended. Sharma said many people like him living in Ludhiana come and seek the blessings of Lord Jagannath.
ROUTE OF THE YATRA
The Rath Yatra will begin from Jagannath Puram after 1.30pm, and move through Chander Nagar, Deep Nagar, Vrindavan Road, Kailash Cinema, Dandi Swami Road, Haibowal, Naseeb Enclave, to end at Gundicha Temple.
