Ramesh Jarkiholi demanded Rs 80 crore to stay in Congress, says JD(S) MLA

MYSURU: K Mahadev, Periyapatna JD(S) MLA, caused ripples in political circles when, at a public function late on Tuesday, he accused legislator Ramesh Jarkiholi of allegedly demanding Rs 80 crore to remain in the Congress. Mahadev also claimed he was offered Rs 40 crore to switch sides to the BJP, but declined.
The allegations appear to add credence to Congress Legislator Party leader Siddaramaiah’s assertion that Jarkiholi has not resigned from the assembly.
Speaking at the launch of a developmental project in Chittenahalli, Periyapatna taluk, Mahadev said: “People’s representatives have to work for the welfare of their constituents and the chief minister has to do a balancing act. Otherwise it will lead to resignation drama, blackmail and threats.” A video of Mahadev’s speech has been widely shared.

The legislator went on to say, “In my presence, Jarkiholi demanded Rs 80 crore,” indicating that the money was to continue support to the JD(S)-Congress coalition government. He also claimed he was offered Rs 40 crore “hard cash” to join the BJP, but instead threatened to call the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
“When we die, we are not buried in cash,” he said, while going on to say that if he had taken the money, he could have left politics and spent the rest of his life in leisure. “But I opted to serve the people,” he said.
