Pune: The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) is all set to shift the Shivajinagar ST stand to Aarey field at Wakdewadi by the end of August. The temporary stand is under construction and will be completed soon.

The shifting has been necessitated due to the metro railway work. The department has decided to set up a state-of-the-art bus port at the present location and a metro station will also be built.

The Shivajinagar ST stand occupies 15,700 square metres area and the bus stand, workshop and ST office operate from here.

MahaMetro had submitted a proposal to MSRTC to start work on the metro railway and the tunnel. Hence, the ST stand, the workshop and the office will be shifted at Aarey field at Wakdewadi. MSRTC will provide 3,185 square metres of space to MahaMetro for the metro railway work.

Pune Divisional Controller Yamini Joshi said, “Work has already started at Aarey field. It will take two months to complete. There will be enough space for bus passengers, as well as office and workshop. The construction work is going under the supervision of our officers and MahaMetro is constructing the stand.”

According to a MahaMetro official, “The construction work is taking place in a paced manner. The tin shed work is already completed.”

According to the plan, the metro railway station work will be completed in a year. The port work will take three more years. During this period, the existing bus stand will operate from the new place.
