AGRA: The UP government taking cognizance of the lack of proper infrastructure for water supply in different parts of the city has approved Rs 125 crore for development of water distribution network.
The funds will be used for laying six km of main water supply pipelines and 86 km of link lines. Besides overhead tanks, clear water reservoirs and rejuvenation of zonal pumping stations will also take place.
In a press conference held at Agra Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Wednesday, Mayor Naveen Jain said, “The state government has approved Rs 125 crore project to expand and upgrade the water supply network in the city. Water supply pipelines will be laid in around two dozen localities. Besides, water pumping stations in poor condition will be rejuvenated. Arrangements will be made for storage of water to ensure no scope for water scarcity. The proposed works will be done in two phases and are targeted to be completed within next two years. Tendering process will be started next month.”
In January, mayor had raised the issue of lack of proper water supply infrastructure in the city with chief minister Yogi Adityanath. He also suggested possible solutions. The CM had asked the mayor to send a work proposal.
According to the official estimate of AMC, the upgradation of water distribution network will help 10,000 households to get water connection. This will fulfill daily water requirements of around 50,000 people.
According to the plan, the areas which will be connected to Sikandra water works station through a new water supply pipeline include parts of Bodla and Gadhi Badoriya locality, Anand Nagar, Chankayapuri, Krishnapuri, Sulahkul Nagar, Beedha Nagar, Ram Mohan Nagar, Ganesh Nagar, Harish Nagar, Deep Nagar, Dushyant Nagar, Jyoti Nagar, Baghyashree Nagar, Dhruv Nagar, Dehtora Road, Sulabh puram, Friends puram and parts of Awas Vikas area.
In three localities, including Gadhi Badoriya, central park in Awas Vikas colony and Ram Mohan Nagar, three overhead tanks and clear water reservoirs will be developed.
Sharing details about the plan, municipal commissioner Arun Prakash said, “There are six zonal pumping stations in Agra. Out of these two are being developed under the Gangajal project. The remaining four at Kotwali, Rakabganj, Shahganj and Keshav Kunj are in poor condition and will be rejuvenated using funds approved by the state government. This will help to ensure uninterrupted water supply in over two dozen localities.”
Mayor Naveen Jain said, “My aim, which I had promised to the citizens before the election, is to ensure clean piped water supply to each and every household of the city. I am making all possible efforts to fulfill the promise by end of my tenure in 2022.”
