We have mostly seen Karanvir Bohra play positive characters in most of his TV shows. But on the big screen, the actor is taking a complete U-turn. He is playing an obsessive lover in Hume Tumse Pyar Kitna, which also stars Priya Banerjee and Sameer Kochar. Directed by Lalit Mohan, it is releasing today.

The film is being produced by his father Mahendra Bohra and Belvie Production. Ask him why he decided to produce the film and he replies, “Production is in my blood. I belong to the third generation of producers, so I had be there.” Not many know that Karanvir’s father was a well-known producer in the ’90s and his grandfather Ramkumar Bohra was also an actor-producer.

After watching the trailer of Hume Tumse Pyar Kitna, we couldn’t help but think about Darr and Shah Rukh Khan’s role in the film. Considering the subject of both these films is similar, wouldn’t people compare the two films? “I have played the character differently because I don’t want people to think, ‘Oh, he has copied this actor or story, or the films are similar’. We had to create something different,” he explains.

Talking about why he decided to act and produce the project, he says that he “wanted to do something which is really up my alley.”

“I know, I would excel in such kind of roles. I can play such characters without any effort. I fitted into the part easily and half the battle was won. So I had to back the film,” says the actor who has also acted in films like Kismat Konnection, Mumbai 125 KM, Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi.

Balancing acting and production at the same time can be challenging. The actor admits that managing the two was indeed difficult. “There is a lot of pressure and effort that goes into it. When you are acting and producing, you have to put in extra efforts. But when you are just acting,  you are focused on your craft. As a producer, you have to take care of everything. But it’s okay because that’s the next step in the evolution of the industry,” he adds.

Karanvir says that he and his dad are not only producing, but also distributing the film. “My father comes from both production and distribution background and this is our business. So, for the past six months, we have been working on this project.”

He says that the entire journey has taught him some valuable lessons. “I had to learn on the job. I learned about direction, marketing, promotion, distribution and campaigning. Even if I had paid crores of rupees, I wouldn’t have learnt as much as I did on the job,” he says.

Karanvir was last seen in Bigg Boss 12 and he was among the top four contestants. He has been part of fiction series like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kkusum, Kasauti Zindagii Kay, and Qubool Hai among others. Will he take up more fiction shows? “I do what pleases my heart. I am doing more episodes of  Khatra, Khatra, Khatra. I have no hard and fast rules. If a daily soap is offered and I have a very interesting character, I will do it,” he says, adding, “I won’t do it because I want to be on TV. The medium has nothing to do with me signing a project. I will do what interests and excites me,” he says.
