PATNA: Despite getting back to Patna after a month, the absence of leader of opposition in state legislative assembly,
Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, from the ongoing monsoon session has set tongues wagging in the political circles.
Tejashwi reached Patna on Monday morning and RJD leaders expected him to attend the ongoing monsoon session of the state legislature, but he didn’t turn up even on Wednesday.
BJP MLC and state public health and engineering department (PHED) minister Vinod Narayan Jha said Tejashwi has got upset over rift in his family on the RJD leadership issue after the party drew a blank in the Lok Sabha elections in
Bihar. “There is a vicious struggle for power in the family of RJD chief Lalu Prasad. The family members are fighting and then trying to pacify each other,” Jha said while referring to Tejashwi’s elder brother Tej Pratap and sister Misa Bharti.
Tejashwi went ‘missing’ from public space after attending the RJD review meeting on May 28 following the Lok Sabha poll debacle under his leadership in the absence of Lalu, who has been convicted in fodder scam cases. As the BJP and JD(U) leaders started questioning his absence when children were dying to acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) in the state, Lalu’s heir apparent tweeted on June 29 that he was undergoing long-pending treatment for knee injuries, but keeping watch on everything happening in Bihar.
RJD insiders also admitted rift in the Lalu family as the reason behind Tejashwi’s absence. “Tejashwi is under tremendous pressure from Misa and Tej as he is being blamed for the RJD’s disastrous performance in the Lok Sabha elections. Tejashwi has asserted that either his elder siblings accept his leadership or he will quit politics,” said a senior RJD functionary, preferring anonymity.
LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan’s son and Jamui MP Chirag Paswan on Wednesday demanded Tejashwi’s resignation as leader of opposition in state assembly. “The absence of my smaller brother Tejashwi from the prevailing scenario in Bihar and not going to Vidhan Sabha after coming back to Patna is quite unfortunate. I have come to know about his health problem and extend my wishes to him for fast recovery. However, one is required to discharge his responsibility in whatever manner possible. If someone is not healthy, he should resign and give the responsibility to someone else to discharge the duties associated with the post in the House,” Chirag said.
However, RJD Rajya Sabha member Manoj Jha maintained that Tejashwi was not attending the assembly session due to his knee injury. “Tejashwi has publicly stated he was undergoing treatment for knee injuries. This treatment was pending from nearly three months. Some more time is required for the wound to heal. He is taking rest. BJP and JD(U) should leave pointing out such personal issue and focus on governance,” the RJD national spokesperson said, adding that Tejashwi is monitoring everything and issuing instructions accordingly.
