Members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and other right-wing organisations on Wednesday carried out a protest in Mangaluru and other parts of Dakshina Kannada demanding action to stop illegal cow transport and slaughter.
Addressing protesters near the office of Deputy Commissioner here, VHP Goraksha Pramukh Jagadish Shenva said the police and the district administration were yet to take action against illegal abattoirs in the district where cows were being brought to be slaughtered illegally.
Mr. Shenva said it was unfortunate that cases were being booked against persons who are trying to prevent illegal cow transport.
Mr. Shenva said if district administration failed to prevent illegal cow transport and slaughter, members of Hindu organisations will give fitting reply to those allegedly involved in illegal cow transportation and slaughter.
He asked farmers to hand over sick and old cows to Hindu activists, who will shift such cows to Goshalas where they are taken better care.
Mr. Shenva commended the recent move of Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil of parading persons involved in illegal cow transport and warning of action if they indulged in illegal activity.
VHP activists held protest demonstrations in Moodbidri, Bantwal, Belthangady, Puttur, Kadaba and Sullia.
