Nagpur: Nadeem Shaikh, 33, alias
Lucky Khan, an aspiring actor-turned-gangster, drove six kilometres to reach Koradi police station after being hit by a bullet near Kalpana Talkies junction in the late hours of Tuesday. He had also deliberately hit the car in which his assailants were travelling. Lucky sustained a bullet injury on his right shoulder.
Lucky was apparently shot at by members of a rival gang over a dispute of Rs3 lakh. Around a month ago, this dispute was referred to a police station. The case has now been shifted to the crime branch.
Lucky, who owned a film production office at Andheri (East), Mumbai, was convicted in the Subhash Shahu murder case in 2011. He was heading towards his residence in Bokhara when a four-wheeler intercepted Lucky’s car. There were a few men on bikes too.
One assailant alighted from a bike and the other from the car. Sources said around five shots were fired but police have confirmed about three.
After getting hit on the shoulder, Lucky ducked and drove in a bent position to avoid getting hit further. Police recovered a live cartridge of .32mm, an empty case and broken bullet piece. One bullet hit lucky’s car.
Lucky’s close friend Girish, who was seated next to him, fled into one of the adjacent lanes. A relative of Lucky who too was in the car did not suffer any injuries.
After ramming the assailants’ vehicle, Lucky reversed, crossing over to the other side and drove straight to Koradi police station. The police are examining CCTV footage of the incident.
Lucky named Nabbu, Dharam Thakur, Sohail, Akil and Rajesh as his attackers. He said social activist Ghulam Ashrafi, who had received an anonymous threat letter last week, was behind the attack. Ashrafi had tried to broker peace between Thakur and Lucky.
Ashrafi’s family has stated that Lucky named him as he had sent Thakur to Yashodhara Nagar police station to lodge a complaint against him few weeks ago.
Sources also claimed that Thakur and his close aides too had evaded a life bid on them a couple of months ago.
