A court here has awarded 10 years imprisonment to a person who murdered a farmer.
According to prosecution, S. Murugan, 48, of Vadakku Kaaraseri near Murappanaadu, who had come to Meerankulam near Sattankulam on January 20, 2016, asked farmer M. Chelladurai, 72, of Meerankulam to give him ₹ 200 as he had no money to go back to Vadakku Kaaraseri. When Chelladurai refused to give the money, Murugan attacked the former with a stone on the head in which he sustained grievous injury and died on the spot. Subsequently, Murugan was arrested.
District Principal Sessions Judge M. Suresh Viswanath awarded 10 years imprisonment and slapped a fine of ₹ 3,000 on Thursday.
