Former All India Radio’s English newsreader and broadcaster Barun Haldar passed away at 88. He breathed his last in Kolkata. As per family sources, Haldar was ailing for some time.

President Kovind took Twitter to pay his condolence. "Sad to hear of the passing of Barun Haldar, a well-known voice from the golden age of radio and a familiar name for followers of AIR news bulletins. My condolences to his family and to the millions who listened to him with rapt attention", he wrote.

He was a popular presenter of Western Music in AIR Kolkata before shifting to AIR Delhi as English Newsreader.
He retired as Chief Newsreader of AIR in 1990. His last rites will be performed after his daughter who stays in Canada arrives in Kolkata.
