A peek into the most important events happening in India and around the world

EU Presidential elections: The European Parliament will elect its president on July 3. This vote will take place even as the European Union's leaders gathered for a third consecutive day on Tuesday to lock-in nominees for the 28-nation bloc's key posts. The leaders are trying to balance political affiliations, the varying interests of different regions, and an acute lack of women in senior ranks. The new president will have to deal with a number of problems the Union faces, including the trade tensions with the US, tension in the Balkan region with Russia, Iran sanctions, China's increasing cyber and political might.

Shah's Gujarat trip: Union Home Minister and BJP President Amit Shah will visit Gujarat from July 3. He will inaugurate many governmental projects, including a flyover on the Ashram Road of Ahmedabad. He is also expected to address party workers of seven Assembly segments of Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat. This will be Shah’s first visit after assuming the office of Union Home Minister.

PowerGrid Corp board meet: PowerGrid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) board will meet today. It will seek to raise up to ₹ 10,000 crore from the domestic market during 2020-2021 through issue of secured/unsecured, non-convertible, non-cumulative/cumulative, redeemable, taxable/tax-free Debentures/Bonds under Private Placement during the financial year 2020-2021 in up to twenty tranches/offers.

Cricket world cup: Hosts England will take on New Zealand in their final World Cup group match on Wednesday. A win would help England go to the semi-finals. Even a defeat would not spell the end of either team’s chances of emerging as one of the top four from the 10-team round-robin phase. England won their previous match against India, while New Zealand lost their previous match against Australia.

Vivo Z1 launch: Vivo Z1 Pro will launch in India on Wednesday. The phone will have a triple rear camera setup and include a 5,000mAh battery. It will have a rear fingerprint sensor and is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 SoC, based on 10nm manufacturing process and sport a 32-megapixel hole-punch selfie camera.
