MUMBAI: A 16-year-old boy was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl and pushing her off the eighth floor of her building in Goregaon when she tried to resist him. The boy's parents were also arrested later in the day for aiding him in the crime.

The incident took place on Saturday and the girl, a Class VII student who is battling for life, is on ventilator at Hiranandani Hospital. She has undergone two major surgeries on her head, said the police. The girl's parents said that she had stepped out of the house at 8.40pm on Saturday and around 9.40pm they came to know that she was lying in a pool of blood in the society compound with her face and head smashed. They have told the police that the accused boy lives in nearby slums and had been harassing as well as stalking their daughter for a couple of months.
"Just an hour before the incident, my daughter had complained to my wife about the accused harassing her. She had said that the boy had been accosting her in the locality and had threatened her. He would tell her that if she spurns him, he will not allow her to fall in love with anyone else," the girl's father said. The police said soon after she left her house on Saturday, the girl got a call from the boy and he told her to come to the refuge area of the 15-storey building as he wanted to discuss "something personal". "The boy assaulted the girl and pushed her off to make it look like a case of suicide. But a witness who heard the sound of the girl falling on the ground also saw the boy leave the building seconds later," said an officer.
