Tamil Nadu information commission is sluggish, NGO alleges

CHENNAI: Anti-corruption NGO Arappor Iyakkam has written to Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami stating that the performance of the state information commission has been sluggish and requested immediate appointment of the chief information commissioner and four information commissioners.
Pointing out that the number of pending second appeals is very high, Arappor Iyakkam convenor Jayaram Venkatesan has stated that the commission has not uploaded its annual report on its website since 2016.

"The Tamil Nadu information commission has six information commissioners. Four of the posts are vacant," Jayaram said. The post of the chief information commissioner has been vacant since May 4,2019.
The NGO requested immediate appointment of the CIC and other vacant posts to dispose of pending cases and effective implementation of the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
