Govt allots Rs 5.17cr for irrigation work in Sarabanga basin

Namakkal: The state government has allotted Rs 5.17 crore to carry out irrigation work in the Sarabanga basin division in the district under the Kudimaramathu scheme in the current financial year, district collector Asia Mariam said.
Inspecting works under the scheme across the district on Wednesday, she told reporters that nearly 14 works were being carried out across the Sarabanga division. “Another Rs 1.21 crore has been allotted to carry out five works across the Mettur dam division in the district,” she said.

She said all the kudimaramathu works were being carried out with farmers’ participation. “The farmers’ associations also give 10% of the project cost every year.”
In the Sarabanga division, a farmers’ association, Mohanur Palla Vaikkal Kadaimadai Vivasayigal Sangam, is carrying out works at the Palla Canal in Mohanur at a cost of Rs 83 lakh. Similarly, another farmers’ association, Paramathivelur Raja Vaikkal Vivasayigal Sangam, is executing works at Vadakaraiyathur Raja Vaikkal in the Paramathi-Velur area at a cost of Rs 45 lakh.
