Stating that a bill to amend the Code of Communidades will be tabled during the monsoon session of the state legislative assembly, the Minister for Revenue Rohan Khaunte on Wednesday said the Commission on Communidades in its report has recommended regularisation of structures on the Communidade lands.

Khaunte also added that the Code of Communidade will be amended during the forthcoming monsoon session of the state legislative assembly for adhering to this recommendation.

“The government will introduce a related bill during this session of the assembly,” he reiterated.

Some other recommendations of the commission are elimination of gender discrimination and bringing fallow land under cultivation to prevent encroachments. The commission has further recommended that shareholders of the Communidades be given the right to purchase Communidade land.

The Revenue Minister informed that the government will also table the report of the Commission on Communidades in the House, during the monsoon session.

“In fact, in order to amend the Code of Communidade, the report of the commission needs to be discussed in the assembly with the Opposition benches,” he observed.

Khaunte informed that the Commission on Communidades was set up to study various aspects of different Communidade in Goa.

The Commission on Communidades came into being in 2013 as a result of a writ petition filed before the High Court of Bombay at Goa on the Code of Communidade.

A 210-page report of the commission was submitted to the then chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar in December 2015.
