SURAT: Pilot of Bhopal-Surat aircraft of
SpiceJet that overshot the runway while landing on Sunday was
grounded by the airline on Tuesday, a source said. However, SpiceJet authorities are yet to give an official version on it. Sources said Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has concluded the initial investigation.
However, a full-fledged probe is yet to be conducted by Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, which has the mandate to probe all serious incidents and accidents involving all commercial and private planes. DGCA had said that the incident happened because of inappropriate landing by the pilot.
A total of 43 passengers and four crew members aboard the SpiceJet flight from Bhopal to Surat had a narrow escape when the aircraft overshot from the Vesu-end of the runway and came to a grinding halt at Runway End Safety Area (RESA).
