Gurgaon: Deputy commissioner
Amit Khatri, who has been given the additional responsibility of MCG chief, on Tuesday said the authorities have already taken adequate measures to avert flooding and resultant traffic snarls in the city during
monsoon.
“Majority of drains and master drains have already been cleaned. Special teams have been set up and regular follow-ups are being carried out. So, I don’t foresee any major issues other than a very few localised problems, which we will manage,” said Khatri. Khatri was given the additional charge after MCG commissioner Vinay Singh was transferred to Hisar as divisional commissioner. Earlier, as the additional commissioner of MCG, Khatri was credited for conceptualising the decentralised sewage treatment plan in the city.
Khatri, who hails from Sonipat, was a computer engineer before getting into civil services. He told TOI that he is confident of handling responsibilities both as the deputy commissioner and MCG chief. “I have a good team of officials, and am willing to work for the development of the city,” he said.
Asked about his priorities, Khatri said, “For the first couple of months, I will focus more on sanitation and drainage problems in the city.” Khatri also talked about the takeover of colonies in Gurgaon. “We are looking carefully into the parameters before taking them over. This year, we hope to take over more colonies once they fulfill required criteria,” he said.
Speaking about water crisis in the city, he said the civic body is dealing with the issue as it is aware of the crucial situation. “Now that rains are around the corner, water crisis will not be an issue anymore. We are supplying water in areas without connection through tankers,” he said.
