With no signboard, commuters find bus stand hard to locate

Ludhiana: While the city is implementing new projects under the smart city programme, the bus stand of Ludhiana is facing some serious maintenance issues.
One of the commuters, Prasoon Malhotra, said, “The bus stand does not have any sign board indicating its presence.”
Although, a little traffic sign does say ‘ISBT’, the rest of it is written in Gurmukhi, which not everyone can read, making it difficult to locate the bus stand without using google maps or asking someone. It’s inconsiderate of city officials to not install a signboard outside the bus stand, said another commuter.
“The adjacent road is overcrowded by both pedestrians and vehicular traffic, but doesn’t have a traffic light. A traffic light is really needed in order to avoid an imminent accident,” said Malhotra.

Another commuter, Jaswinder Singh, who travels everyday from Ludhiana to Patiala, said, “It’s difficult to travel in non-AC buses during the day. AC buses only ply on Jalandhar and Chandigarh routes. Introducing AC buses on all routes will be a relief for people who have to travel everyday in hot and humid conditions.”
Also, the garbage collected after cleaning buses from the inside is left adjacent to the bus. Though there are sweepers assigned to keep the bus stand clean, they too find it difficult to handle so much mess. One such sanitation worker said, “It is difficult to maintain cleanliness in the bus stand premises due to the sheer size of the area and people relentlessly littering everywhere using the bus stand as a garbage dump. A lot of people urinate in the open here even when bathrooms have been provided, leading to foul smell and creating a risk of infection. The condition of the bus stand needs to be improved if we want to meet smart city standards.”
