Vadodara: In a case of love gone sour, a spurned lover stabbed his paramour 25 times, leaving her to die in her own pool of blood in Sama area of the city on Wednesday afternoon.
Deepa Darji, the 27-year-old married woman, stayed with her family, including her in-laws and 5-year-old son on the first floor of Mahesh Complex. Accused Somnath Patil, who was arrested by the crime branch from the city within three hours of the incident, stayed with his family on the second floor of the same building.
Cops said Patil and Deepa were in an extramarital relationship for the last three years and he also used to give her money. “However, differences cropped up between the two over the past few months and they fought frequently,” said Jaydeepsinh Jadeja, DCP (crime).
Patil had planned to murder Deepa, cops said, after he knew that she had entered into a relationship with another man. Woman’s husband, Paresh Darji, is a tailor by profession.
“Patil, who drives a school van, even caught the duo in an intimate moment. Enraged at being double-timed, he purchased a big knife around three days ago. On Wednesday, he told Deepa that he wanted to talk to her,” Jadeja told TOI.
At around 12.15pm when she was alone, she called Patil. First he tried to talk her back into their relationship. But when she remained steadfast about discontinuing their affair and said that he is as good as dead for her, Patil got angry. He had come to the house with his knife and stabbed Deepa 25 times on the stomach, hands and chest.
He then fled the spot. When the mother-in-law came home at around 12.30 pm, she found the door locked from inside and Deepa did not respond to calls. She called neighbours who entered the house from a rear door and saw her lying in a pool of blood. They rushed her to SSG Hospital but the doctors there declared her brought dead.
Jadeja said that cops began hunting for Patil nabbed him from Mehsananagar Garba Ground. “Accused had pre-planned the murder and even kept clean clothes ready in his home. He also told us that he too wanted to end his life,” he added.
