CHANDIGARH: The weather conditions as per Chandigarh meteorological department will not change much in the city and residents will continue to experience
heat wave with delay in rainfall. Weather conditions are, however, expected to cool down in the next two weeks with the onset of
monsoon, which is expected to reach Chandigarh by the second week of July. The
pre-monsoon showers are expected this week.
"The maximum temperature is hovering around 40°C due to delay in monsoon and due to lack of rain
humidity level is high. Overall, no abnormal temperature has been recorded and with the coming monsoon the temperatures will decrease," said Surinder Paul, scientist and incharge, meteorological department, Chandigarh.
The wind speed on Monday was recorded at 10kmph with humidity levels at 42%. On Tuesday as well, the temperatures witnessed a slight drop. The minimum temperature recorded on Tuesday was 29.4°C, five degrees above normal while the maximum temperature was 39.6°C, four degrees above normal. The maximum temperature on Monday was recorded at 40.5°C, five degrees above normal, and the minimum temperature was recorded at 30°C, five degrees above normal.
The average maximum temperature of June was recorded at 40.1°C, which is higher than the average maximum temperature of June 2018, which was recorded at 37.2°C. There is a chance of 5-10 mm of rain in the next three days. The average of the minimum temperature of June was recorded at 27.1°C, which is almost similar to the average minimum temperature of June 2018, which was 27°C. "There has been a lot of water and power demand due to high temperature and no rainfall, which has been noticed during the previous years when deficit rainfall was recorded. There is a chance of rainfall this week, which will be scattered but no major rainfall will occur. The temperature will go down slightly," added Paul.
