Motorbike rider dies in crash on Queensland highway
A man has died with critical injuries after his motorbike and a vehicle collided on the Brisbane Valley Highway in Queensland's Somerset region.
Attempts were made to save the 52-year-old male rider from Boronia Heights but he was dead at the scene.
Emergency services called were just after 5am on Wednesday near Wanora Road, Wanora - west of Brisbane.
QAS senior operations supervisor Mark Nugent said the driver of the vehicle, a 52-year-old man from Glamorgan Vale, was taken to Ipswich Hospital in a stable condition, with a shoulder injury.
"The patient was encapsulated inside the vehicle with the impact requiring extrication through breaking into three doors with the assistance of Queensland Fire and Emergency Services," he said.
The Brisbane Valley Highway was closed in both directions with police asking motorists to divert along Glen Morganvale Road.
The highway would remain close until about midday as the Forensic Crash Unit continues to investigate.
