CHANDIGARH: Aiming to prevent potential murder incidents involving past enmity, Haryana police have started mapping of such cases that can lead to a serious dispute. Police will connect information within police reports and develop a strategy to prevent such unfortunate incidents. This exercise will continue up to July 15, 2019.
Additional director general of police (Law and Order)
Navdeep Singh Virk said that under this drive, police would systematically study the records and also collect information or intelligence regarding such potential cases where there is a possibility of killings or attacks due to continuing past enmity.
He said that director general of police Manoj Yadava had directed all commissioners of police and district superintendents of police to work on a strategy to identify and analyze the cases where there is a possibility of such enmity developing into a serious dispute. They have been asked to disperse a special team of dedicated police officers under their direct supervision to study the issue and compile a database of such potential cases. After compiling the information, all concerned officers through SHO or crime teams would carry out sustained efforts to prevent such cases.
We hope for more positive results in the days to come. Virk said that such incidents come under unpreventable category where a trivial issue suddenly takes an ugly shape. Analysis of recent cases of murders in the past few weeks in several districts shows that the basic reason is past enmity that is carried on for years and leads to several murders on both sides over time. Even there have been instances where gangs have targeted family members of their rival gang or witnesses. “This is an area of grave concern and we are working on this. Getting prior information about such cases will help to prevent crime and detect criminal incidents without delays,” added Virk.
