Olympian Kynan Chenai shot 118 and missed the trap final by three points in the Shotgun World Championship here on Wednesday.
It was the lowest total for Chenai this season, as he had shot 123, 122 and 120 in the last three World Cups in Acapulco, Al Ain and Changwon respectively. It is another matter that he had missed the finals despite the high scores.
He had rounds of 22, 25, 24, 23 and 24, for the 19th spot in a field of 157.
Prithviraj Tondaiman shot 116, following rounds of 24, 22, 24, 23 and 23 for the 49th spot, while Zoravar Singh Sandhu had rounds of 19, 20, 25, 23 and 24 for 111, that placed him 89th.
Shooting in the MQS section, Asian Games silver medallist Lakshay Sheoran had 114 and Fahd Sultan 112.
Bigger struggle
It was a bigger struggle for the Indian shooters in women’s trap, except for Rajeshwari Kumari, shooting in the MQS section, as she notched up 115 despite a 20 in the last round. She had shot 22, 24, 24 and 25 in the first four. Soumya Gupta had 104.
In the main event, Manisha Keer had 108, while Olympian Shagun Chowdhary mustered 107 and World Cup silver medallist Seema Tomar had 101.
In junior men’s trap, Vishwa Kundu (110), Vivaan Kapoor (109) and Bhowneesh Mendiratta (108) did not impress. Chitrang Patel (104) and Shardul Vihan (103) found it equally hard in the MQS section. In junior women’s trap, Kirti Gupta (102), Preeti Rajak (100) and Ayesha Khan (98) placed 18th, 20th and 25th respectively, among 30 shooters.
