Has Austrian GP verdict redefined what is acceptable F1 racing?
Formula 1 faced a penalty decision controversy for the third time in as many grands prix in Austria, but the Max Verstappen/Charles Leclerc incident had a different outcome.
After rulings such as the punishment that cost Sebastian Vettel Canadian GP victory, and Daniel Ricciardo a points-paying finish in France, left F1 drivers raging against over-zealous rule enforcement. It also seemed to be contradiction of the 'let them race' ethos the championship was supposed to be adopting, but Verstappen avoiding a penalty for his move on Leclerc appeared to change the picture once again.
