Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Tuesday raised the issue of fake news in Rajya Sabha during Zero Hour and urged the government to formulate a comprehensive law to curb the posts which sometimes lead to riot and fight in society.
“There are many reports of fake news and it is more dangerous than terrorism. Due to fake news, we have seen many incidents of riots and fights. The society has been divided with posts on social media platforms,” said Mr Singh.
He vouched for the regulatory act to contain the fake news circulating in the society.
BJP’s Vinay Sahasrabuddhe raked up the issue of online gaming and asked the government to issue a guideline in this regard as it is proving to be harmful.
“Students are involved in gaming for 14 hours. It is essential for the government to formulate a guideline. Family relationships are getting hampered due to this,” the BJP leader said.
BSP’s Satish Chandra Mishra drew the attention of House with regards to Uttar Pradesh government issued an advisory to remove 17 castes from the list of OBCs and asked the district administration to issue certificate of scheduled castes.
“Its a fallacy for these castes as it is unconstitutional. No state government can do that and even President also can’t do that. Parliament has only power to make changes,” Mr Mishra added.
In his reply, Leader of House Thawarchand Gehlot said, “It is wrong. The state government should send proposal and the Parliament will do it.”
Ramnath Thakur of JDU urged for a regulatory board to look after the affairs of coaching institutes since it has taken a shape of industry.
