BHARUCH/SURAT: Tempo driver Suresh Gohil was shocked and so was the team of State Goods & Services Tax (SGST) that raided his house in slum on Saturday.
Not only has Gohil been named in a Rs 200 crore bogus GST billing scam, but also shown as owner of four bungalows in Bhavnagar. SGST team was also surprised when they raided his small house covered by tin roof in Vasant Mill Chawl in Bharuch.

The officials had warrant and summons for Gohil after one of the accused Amit Chavda named Gohil Enterprise as one of the firms involved in raising bogus GST invoices for him. Gohil Enterprise had raised bogus invoices to the tune of Rs 200 crore and caused huge loss to the state exchequer by evading payment of GST.
The team was surprised to meet Gohil and see his house. They checked his PAN card, electricity bill, Aadhaar card and bank passbook etc but found nothing suspicious. The officials registered his statement, but took away his two mobile phones while leaving.

Gohil told TOI, "I don’t even know what is GST. I have studied only up to class III. I have not registered any company. Someone has misused my name and documents to register the company. I was told that this particular person (Suresh Gohil) owns a truck and four bungalows in Bhavnagar.”
SGST officials said every document of the bogus Gohil Enterprise in their possession mentions Suresh Gohil as its proprietor. “We are investigating whether Suresh Gohil’s documents were used with or without his consent. Several parties have taken input tax credit under GST by raising bogus invoices, causing massive loss to the state exchequer. We have to see whether he operates any other bank account, and also catch hold of the kingpin of the scam fast.”
