PATNA: Former chief minister and leader of opposition in legislative council,
Rabri Devi, on Monday said chief minister
Nitish Kumar should take the responsibility for the children’s deaths due to acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) in the state. She said Nitish should also take the responsibility for the
health crisis in the same manner as PM Narendra Modi did while speaking in the Rajya Sabha last week.
Interacting with media persons outside the Upper House, Rabri also demanded a high-level inquiry against the people responsible for so many deaths and the government should lodge a murder case against them. “The state government has become shameless,” Rabri said.
The AES deaths also rocked the legislative council with RJD MLC Ram Chandra Purbey demanding house adjournment. He said the death of over 200 kids due to AES has proved the failure and irresponsibility of the state government.
“When 130 kids died due to AES at Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) in 2014, the central government had assured to increase the number of beds in paediatric intensive care unit and a research lab in Muzaffarpur to find out the real cause behind the disease. But neither the Centre nor the state government took any concrete step in this regard,” Purbey said.
He said majority of the kids who died due to AES belonged to poor family and government schemes like midday meal had failed in the state.
But BJP MLC Rajnish Kumar defended the government saying both the Centre and the state health ministers were doing their best to address the issue. “Where was opposition leader (Tejashwi Prasad Yadav) when kids were dying. You people have no right to raise questions over this issue,” said Rajnish while attacking RJD.
Both RJD and Congress MLCs also raised anti-government slogans outside the legislative council.
