PATNA: As RJD and CPI (ML) members disrupted proceedings in the assembly on Tuesday demanding accountability from the state government for the AES deaths, BJP leaders launched a counter offensive attacking the leader of opposition, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, over his continuous absence from the House.
The opposition members sought the resignation of health minister Mangal Pandey for his alleged failure in taking adequate steps to prevent the deaths of over 150 children, holding that somebody in the government should take responsibility for the tragedy.
Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi launched a scathing attack on Tejashwi during his reply to the debate on the Rs 2 lakh crore budget for 2019-20. Modi is also the state finance minister.
“Tejashwi remained absent for a month and no one knows why. When so many children died due to AES, he should have gone to Muzaffarpur to meet the children and their families. If not him, then at least the leader of opposition in the legislative council, Rabri Devi, should have gone there,” Modi said.

The deputy CM said, in his thirty-year career, he had not seen a leader of opposition, who went “missing” like this. “Earlier, he was out of Patna... but now he is here for the last two days. It is strange that he has not participated in the proceedings of the House in its two sittings,” Modi added.
In the pre-lunch session, Speaker Vijay Kumar Choudhary had to adjourn the House within 15 minutes as RJD and CPI(ML) members entered the Well of the House and shouted slogans against the health minister. The question hour and other listed items of the House business could not be taken up for government’s replies.
