Mayor S. Ravinder Singh turned emotional while addressing the last general body meeting of Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar held here on Monday.

Chairing the meeting, the Mayor listed out his achievements and thanked all the corporators and officials for their support. Expressing satisfaction over completing his five-year tenure as Mayor, he said he did his best to ensure the well-being of the residents of Karimnagar by launching various welfare programmes in the last five years.

Appreciation from CM

Recollecting the appreciation that he received from Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu and several IAS officers, he said, “I never resorted to corruption as alleged by some people. But I remained silent and discharged my duties. Now, my work speaks for me”.

He said he comes from a poor family and knows the plight of the poor. That was why ₹1 a tap connection, Anthima Yatra, medical tests for ₹1 and other welfare schemes were launched. He also had plans to exempt those from paying property tax who would send their children to government schools, but as his term ended, he could not announce it.

He hoped that the Karimnagar town would develop on par with other metropolitan cities under the Smart City project.

Later, the corporators felicitated him for his tremendous work.

Municipal Commissioner G. Venugopal Reddy and others were also present.
