HUBBALLI:
BJP was cleverly trying to impose Article 356 and keep the assembly in suspended animation to go for midterm polls along with Maharashtra and other states charged
former minister Basavaraj Rayareddy.
Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, Rayareddy said the BJP was behind the resignation of the
Congress MLAs, they were trying to create a constitutional crisis to impose the President’s rule in the state. They may meet the governor seeking the imposition of Article 356 citing resignation of two MLAs, he said.
If some more MLAs follows the suite then they (BJP)definitely go for the imposition of Article 356, BJP was not at all interested in forming the next government, they want to go for midterm polls.
“According to my credible sources, BJP high command is not at all interested in toppling the government. They want midterm poll and for this reason, they were trying to project that the government machinery is not working efficiently,” he charged.
Commenting on the resignation of two Congress
MLAs Anand Singh and Ramesh Jarkiholi, their resignations would turn as invalid as Vijayanagar MLA Anand Singh cited reasons for his resignation and Jarkiholi has sent it via fax, so the assembly speaker has the right to announce their resignation as invalid. If they submit the resignation in the proper format, the speaker takes time to accept it and there is provision for it also.
If the resigned MLAs go for immediate bypoll they cannot become ministers if any chance BJP forms the government because of anti-defection law, he said.
So he requested the MLAs who were on the fence to switch their sides think twice before making any hasty decision.
“The government is stable and if the BJP wants to form the government at least 16 MLAs have to resign and as of now it seems it’s next to impossible,” said Rayareddy.
He admitted that to keep BJP from forming the government, both the Congress and JDS have formed the government, “the coalition is like a marriage. I admit that the alliance has damaged the party, but it should continue. We need a valid reason to give divorce to the life partner,” he said.
