Direct admission or retest, DAVV in a fix

INDORE: Facing towering problems in holding Common Entrance Test (CET) again, DAVV is now considering direct admissions to students for courses on basis of merit status in higher secondary examinations this year.
Direct admission on merit basis and re-conducting examinations are the two options that had come out in the meeting conducted by Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore (DAVV) registrar with all HoDs of University Teaching Departments (UTD) on Monday.
Currently, admission procedure of undergraduate and postgraduate candidates of CET type I examination is stuck in limbo. The varsity is planning to take a decision soon to ensure that students are not at loss.
Reports of observers were also discussed during the meeting and it was analyzed that there were some centres that had technical glitches, which means that even among students, who had appeared for examination, there are many, who were unable to write the entrance test properly.
The first thing that has come out in the meeting was to conduct examination of remaining 1300 students. However, some also suggested re-conducting examination for all students, but that will not be fair for those, who got sufficient time, said DAVV registrar Anil Sharma.
"We had conducted the meeting to seek suggestions and take decision regarding admission for courses listed under CET type I. We have got several complaints from students, who were unable to write exam properly due to technical glitches. Moreover, suggestions were also given for direct admissions, but both options have issues that were raised by HoDs," he added.
The suggestions given by HoDs have been forwarded to admission cell, which will collate and decide.
Around 16000 out of 17500 candidates were able to give computer based online test of CET on June 23. Academic session was scheduled to start from July 1.
