Stolen items worth Rs 6 crore returned to owners

Mysuru: The city police on Tuesday returned stolen items worth Rs 5.96 crores which they recovered from thieves to the owners during a property parade.
The returned items included gold, silver, cash and vehicles.
The owners thanked the police for getting back their valuables which they had lost in the past one-and-a-half years. Commissioner of police KT Balakrishna and DCP (law and order) M Muthuraju handed over valuables to its owners on the occasion.
Dakshayani (75) was all smiles again after receiving her two chains weighing 90 gm back from police at CAR grounds. She was given sedation by a young woman, who offered her a soft drink during a journey from Bengaluru to Mysuru and escaped with her gold chains. Though Dakshayani was a regular traveller in the past five decades, she ended up losing her gold chains when she accepted juice from a stranger for the first time. She was lucky that police solved her case soon.
Sugunadevi was robbed of her chains by bike-borne youths on May 2. She was one among seven victims who lost her chains on single day. Weeks later, the city police nabbed an Irani gang and solved her case. The bike-borne men robbed her gold chains when she came out to fetch the milk. Since then she has been wearing only a chain of black beads.
Vanaja could get back only 90 gm gold out of total 250 gm that she lost last year. She had also lost Rs 2 lakh. Though she got back only less than half of the gold she lost, she is still happy about the police investigation. She is hopeful of getting back the rest of the gold along with the cash. She had the locked house for only 15 minutes to watch Dasara procession in 2018. When she returned home, a burglar took away cash and valuables from her house.
DCP Muthuraju appreciated the efforts of police personnel in detecting crimes. Of late, police are facing tough challenges in solving crimes as the criminals are changing their modus operandi and leaving less clues unlike earlier, he said. “When robberies take place, we too lose our sleep like the owners and give our best to solve it. We feel proud when we handover properties to owners,” the DCP said.
Commissioner of police KT Balakrishna said complete recovery of valuables lost in snatchings and burglary was not easy as the robbers often dispose them off for paltry amounts. Sometimes, if the case is solved immediately, there is a chance of getting back the valuables in tact. “We have given away whatever we have recovered and in case we receive valuables during further investigation it will be handed over to them,” he said.
The commissioner appealed to the public to be cautious while safeguarding their valuables and asked them to inform police whenever they lock their houses and leave the city so that precautions could be taken.
