SOMERSET — Dr. Yvonne Ide pulled up outside a little white house with dark shutters and lugged her gear up a few steps to the open front door.

Cate LePage, just a few days from delivering her third child, let Ide inside with a big smile.

Ide is used to being welcomed into people’s homes as the founder of Ideal Chiropractic Club: Pregnancy & Pediatric House-Call Chiropractor, a unique business model that combines health care and convenience exclusively for expecting mothers, postpartum moms and children.

“I really love providing the convenience of house calls,” Ide said. “I love being an advocate for them.”

Ide opened her mobile table in LePage’s living room and the mom-to-be got into position for her weekly adjustment.

“I don’t know if I had to go to an office and wait if I would have made the time,” LePage said. “And, I would have missed out.”

LePage said when she was about 26 weeks pregnant and “getting kind of miserable,” she heard about Ide and decided to make an appointment.

An occupational therapist, LePage said she was familiar with the benefits of chiropractic care and hoped it would keep her from suffering sciatica as she had during her last pregnancy.

“I was afraid of that starting again,” LePage said.

She also didn’t want to “sit in a waiting room” with her 8-year-old and 5-year-old children, or find a babysitter.

“It’s the best pregnancy that I’ve felt thus far,” LePage said.

Ide explained how pregnancy can place a toll on the body. As the uterus grows, everything “shifts to accommodate the growth of the baby.” Even though the body releases hormones to help with that expansion, “there can be misalignment,” Ide said.

A misalignment can translate into lower back pain, sciatica, pelvic pain and more.

“I find those imbalances, correct them and let the body do what it does,” Ide said.

Ide, a native of Las Vegas, moved recently to Somerset after earning a doctorate at Life Chiropractic College West in California.

She came to the area with her young son to be near family. Ide is now taking part in EforAll, an entrepreneurship program with a Fall River location, to help her develop her house-call business.

She serves a wide area from roughly Fairhaven to East Bridgewater.

“I’ve always loved holistic healthcare,” Ide said.

In her role, Ide said she’s able to promote wellness by bringing the body into balance.

While LePage rested on the table, Ide straightened her feet and checked for misalignment.

“I’m challenging the nervous system and seeing how the body will respond to it, to see what needs to be done,” Ide said.

Ide pulsed some points along LePage’s spine and neck with “no twisting, cracking or popping,” she said.

Ide uses low force with her patients and performs adjustments with a spring-loaded device that can be set with the right tension to correct imbalances.

“It’s very gentle,” LePage said. “I feel like my posture is better. And, she’s given me some good stretches to do.”

After several appointments, LePage said she felt like her body was maintaining the adjustments.

“My pregnant women especially love the balancing of the spine,” Ide said. “It gets you ready for labor.”
