SURAT: Hundreds of passengers going towards Mumbai were stranded on the
Surat railway station after three trains bound to the country’s financial capital were cancelled and other long distance trains were running late by almost two hours due to
heavy water logging on tracks on Palghar section on Monday morning.
Sources said that the passengers had a harrowing experience after they were told by the railway authorities that the trains in which they were supposed to travel were cancelled and that they will have to find other travelling option to reach their destinations.
A passenger who was travelling to Mumbai from Vadodara, Rajeet Surve, said, “I was travelling in the Ahmedabad-Chennai Express and that the railway staff asked me and other passenger in the coach that the train will not go to Mumbai due to some problem near Palghar. Our train was diverted from Jalgaon. I had to reach Mumbai for important meeting, but had to return to Vadodara.”
Official sources said that trains namely Flying Ranee, Virar Shuttle, Valsad Intercity were cancelled and other trains were running late by 50 minutes to 2.5 hours.
Railway manager, CR Garuda told TOI, “The long distance trains were diverted from Jalgaon due to heavy water logging in Palghar section. Also, there was an incident of goods train derailment between Pune and Kalyan section. The passengers were given refund for their tickets.”
Garuda added, “The train services was normalised by afternoon and that the trains were moving slowly on the tracks near Palghar.”
