SC contempt notice to West Bengal

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday sought the Bengal government’s response to a plea for initiation of contempt proceedings against Kolkata Police officials for disobeying the court’s order directing immediate release of BJP worker Priyanka Sharma, who was arrested for sharing a meme on CM Mamata Banerjee on social media.
A bench of CJI Ranjan Gogoi and Justices Deepak Gupta and Aniruddha Bose issued notice on a contempt plea filed by Sharma alleging that despite the apex court order directing her immediate release, police delayed it by two days.
