Wetlands, ponds in Noida’s water conservation plan

Wetlands and ponds will be cleaned and developed under the plan
Noida: The Noida Authority has geared up for a massive drive aimed at water conservation.
Apart from developing green zones, parks and vertical gardens, Authority has diverted its focus on developing its waterbodies, ponds, wetlands and especially rain water harvesting (RWH) pits to recharge its depleting ground water levels, given the ensuing monsoon months ahead.
The Authority, on the instruction of CEO Alok Tandon, has formed 20 committees, each comprising three members — officials/engineers — across all work circles of Noida Authority that will check the functioning of completed rain water harvesting pits across the city.
A training programme in this direction will be held on July 3, followed by field inspections from July 4 to make it a mass movement for water conservation and awareness generation in Noida.
“We are committed to water conservation and have initiated many steps in that direction including development of wetlands, ponds and parks. Taking the move forward, I have directed to form 20 committees which will educate and encourage people on rain water conservation and keep a check on RWH,” said Alok Tandon, CEO, Noida Authority.

Tandon further added that these committees will ensure that all the completed and upcoming infrastructural projects in Noida must have roof top rainwater harvesting system working successfully.
“They will also provide technical assistance and knowledge to all the concerned stakeholders. Also, the upcoming rain water harvesting structures at the district hospital at Sector 39 and multilevel parking site at Botanical Garden will be a role model,” said Tandon.
