Coimbatore: Contract labourers of BSNL on Tuesday began a three-day hunger strike as they had not been paid salary for six months till date. They were also joined by permanent employees of BSNL. The protest took place at the BSNL office on State Bank Road in the city.
There are around 5,500 contract workers in BSNL in the state. In Coimbatore district, there are around 480 contract workers.
They are paid from Rs4,000 to Rs12,000 a month. They do all jobs from sanitary work to mending faulty lines and cable joints and system repairs in BSNL offices.
