BENGALURU: A 21-year-old homemaker from Nepal who arrived in Bengaluru last month in search of employment has accused a friend of raping her in a hotel room after luring her with the ruse that she could land a job if she attended an interview there.
The woman told police that she arrived in Bengaluru on June 13, after another friend and the man she accused, NT Apa (name changed), promised to find her a job in the city. Apa met her at the airport and took her to his sister's house. The next morning, he met the woman and invited her to a party he said he was throwing for his son's birthday. "He took me to a hotel on his two-wheeler but there was no sign of any party going on there," the woman said in her complaint. "He then said I could attend a job interview at the same hotel and took me to a room where he said it would take place."
Apa, she said, offered her a glass of juice after they entered the room. She lost consciousness soon after and awoke only the next morning. She found that she had been raped and shouted at Apa, asking him who had raped her, a police officer said.
"The accused threatened the woman with dire consequences if she told anyone about what had happened before taking her back to his sister's house," the officer said.

The threat frightened her, the woman said in her complaint. "I called my husband in Nepal and explained the situation to him," she said. "My husband came to the city and we were preparing to head home to Nepal when he called my husband's cellphone and threatened to kill us if we left the city."
The woman said she did not know the name of the hotel where she said she had been raped or the locality where his sister stayed. "Apa's cellphone has been switched off, but we have collected his call records," the officer said. "We are searching for him."
