Hyderabad: Over 2,500 drunk drivers held in June

HYDERABAD: As part of its ongoing drive against drunk drivers, the Hyderabad traffic police caught 2,536 people driving under the influence of alcohol in the month of June. The traffic police filed charges against all of them and they were produced in the third and fourth metropolitan magistrate courts in Nampally.
One person’s driving licence was cancelled permanently, while two people were sent to prison for 30 days.

In total, 340 people were sent to jail, while driving licences of 121 persons were suspended for periods ranging from three months to three years. In all, fines amounting to Rs 54,94,200 were levied by traffic cops on violators.
Apart from being counselled at the Traffic Training Institute at Goshamahal and Begumpet, the violators sentenced for imprisonment were sent to Chanchalguda Jail.
