MOHALI: A 43-year-old property financier was allegedly thrashed to death in a case of road rage in Zirakpur on Sunday evening, prompting the police to arrest three people on Monday. Kuldeep Singh, alias Romi, the victim, belonged to Sonipat and was a resident of
VIP Road, Zirakpur.
Road rage is seen and heard on Tricity roads quite often these days. With the surge in number of vehicles on roads, there is more provocation for aggressive driving. All any motorist can do is to be a considerate driver and follow the road rules. Think twice before you honk the horn or make any aggressive gesture, because you may trigger a chain of anger in a person in a car near you. It is commonly seen that when one driver reacts angrily to the other, the aggressive tactics escalate. The bottom line is to exercise control and steer clear of a road rage situations or seek police help.

He was returning from Panchkula in his Skoda car with his friends Pawan Siroha (38) and Nipun Jain (39). Nipun, a resident of Sector 21, Panchkula, was driving the car.
When they reached Sanaulia road, a car following them started honking. When Nipun failed to give it way, the Ford Figo car allegedly hit their vehicle and its occupants hurled abuses at him, the complaint filed by Pawan, a resident of VIP Road alleged.
Kuldeep was sitting next to Nipun. The driver of the Ford car allegedly intercepted their car and exchanged heated words with Kuldeep. Three persons got down from the car and allegedly started thrashing Kuldeep. They pinned him down on the seat and kept punching him till he fell unconscious, the complaint alleged. The accused allegedly thrashed Pawan and Nipun too when they tried to rescue Kuldeep. He was taken to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Police registered a case and launched a manhunt. Later, police managed to trace the accused and arrested them, said senior superintendent of police G S Bhullar.
“They are Gurvinder Singh, Sukhvinder Singh and Parvinder Singh, all residents of Sanaulia village in Zirakpur. The involvement of another accused is being verified and once ascertained, his name will also be added to the FIR,” the SSP said.
Police claimed the post-mortem report pointed out the cause of death as cardiac failure and they were taking legal opinion whether to replace section 302 (murder) of the IPC with section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).
