Subhash Chandra Bose was one of India’s most respected freedom fighter. Bose is credited with building India's first armed force in the form of Azad Hind Fauj. Bose, who had cleared the Indian Civil Service examination in 1920, quit his civil service job on April 23, 1921. For two decades after this, Bose had been associated with the Indian National Congress as a young, radical leader. Subhas Chandra Bose was jailed 11 times for his involvement in India's freedom struggle. However, he was released in December the same year when he sat on a hunger strike.
