Two men in a car assault & rob truck driver of Rs 6,500

PUNE: Two men travelling in a car assaulted and robbed a truck driver of Rs 6,500 around 12.15am on Monday near Wakad bridge on the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass.
Truck driver Ram Raees Yadav (38) of Navi Mumbai sustained injuries on his ear and head during the assault.
Sub-inspector G M Chamale of the Hinjewadi police said Yadav was on his way to the Jawaharlal Nehru Port at Nhava Sheva in Navi Mumbai when the incident occurred.
“On reaching the Wakad bridge, Yadav stopped the truck along the bypass to check the air pressure in the tyres,” the officer said.
He said, “This is when a white car stopped along the service road. Two persons got down from the car and approached Yadav. One of them told Yadav to handover whatever cash he was carrying to them. When Yadav refused to part with the money, one of them hit him on his ear with a sharp weapon.”
When Yadav tried to resist, they hit him on his head. “The two persons snatched Rs6,500 from him and drove away from the spot. Yadav visited the police station and lodged an FIR,” Chamale said.

The Hinjewadi police have registered an offence under sections 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Chamale said the police have launched a search to trace the suspects. “Our investigation is on,” he added.
