CHANDIGARH: Angry family members, accompanied by the friends of deceased Amit Katoch, 27, reached Sector 39 police station here on Sunday and had heated arguments with the policemen for their failure to arrest the killers even after two days of the incident.
Around 30-40 relatives and friends of Amit, a car dealer, had reached the police station and demanded arrest of Rajat Tiwari and other absconding accused in the case. It was only after the assurance of SHO that the aggrieved family calmed down and left the police station. They also cremated the victim's body on Sunday.
The family members said that Amit was murdered on Friday and cops had got the CCTV footage of the incident, in which Rajat and Harpreet Singh along with some others are seen attacking Amit with sharp-edged weapons in Sector 40 market. Despite the accused being identified, the police have failed to arrest any of the accused so far.
The prime suspect in the case, Rajat Tiwari, a resident of Kharar, was also wanted in a kidnapping case taking place under Sector 34 police jurisdiction for the last three months. Later, however, he was arrested by Sector 39 police in an attempt to murder case. Rajat had allegedly hit a home guard volunteer at police check-post when he tried to stop him for triple-riding a bike.
Second identified accused, Harpreet, who was among the attackers of Amit, was also involved in the Sector 34 kidnapping case, along with Rajat.
The Sector 34 police had registered a case of kidnapping and under sections of Arms Act against Rajat and others. Rajat has been on the run ever since. Harsh Goyal, the complainant in the kidnapping case, claimed that Rajat had been pressuring him by sending messages through his friends to strike a compromise in the case.

On Saturday, cops called Goyal to the Sector 39 police station and showed him the footage of attack. Goyal identified Rajat and Harpreet among the attackers of Amit.
On Friday, Rajat and Harpreet, along with four others, had allegedly chased and attacked Amit with swords over an old enmity. Amit was chatting with his friends when the accused arrived in the Sector 40 market. The victim was rushed to the PGI where doctors declared him dead.
