HYDERABAD: In yet another case of a minor being assaulted, a seven-year-old was allegedly raped by a 45-year-old neighbour in Jagatgirigutta on Saturday. The accused was thrashed by the locals before being handed over to cops.
The accused, Mahipal Reddy, a daily wager who stayed in a shed on the terrace of a building in Yellammabanda, had lured the victim playing near her house, police said.
It was a tenant staying in that building who saw the accused and victim in an inappropriate position when he had gone to the terrace at around 10.30 am.
Accused hurt in escape bid, arrested post-treatmentThe parents of the victim were alerted. Locals thrashed the accused and in an attempt to escape Reddy slipped and fell. “He sometimes sat on a pavement near the victim’s house and played with her. On Saturday, he took the victim to the building’s terrace where he stays and sexually assaulted her,” said Balanagar ACP T Govardhan.Cops suspect that Reddy, an alcoholic, was drunk during the assault.
“He sustained minor injuries. He was shifted to Gandhi Hospital for treatment. After getting a fitness certificate from the hospital, he was arrested on Saturday night,” the ACP said. Reddy was booked under the IPC and POCSO Act.
