Monsoon likely to be late by over a week, to reach city after July 10

Ludhiana: Monsoon is likely to be delayed by eight to 10 days.
“Monsoon that was approaching the state has got stuck near Madhya Pradesh in Central India. As a result, it is likely to arrive eight to 10 days late in the state. It is expected to reach the city after July 10,” said Chandigarh meteorological department director Surender Paul.
The city, however, will receive showers after three days.
“There are chances of light to moderate rainfall Friday onwards. The city will receive showers till the weekend. It will bring the rising day temperature down,” he added.
The department website predicts day temperature to rise to 42 degrees till Wednesday. It will fall to 39 degrees till July 7. The night temperature will rise to 28 degrees till Wednesday and remain the same till July 7.
On Monday, the maximum (day) temperature was recorded at 39.2 degrees (a degree more than normal) and the minimum (night) at 27.3 degrees (a degree more than normal). The relative humidity was 71%.

With the mercury increasing, the residents are waiting for rain to cool the city.
“The conditions are not just hot, but humid too. The sultry weather makes stepping out difficult. I hope it rains to bring respite from torrid conditions,” said Rohit Sharma, a resident of Civil Lines.
