Wild elephant tramples man to death

Coimbatore: A wild elephant trampled a 45-year-old security guard to death inside a coffee estate near Kurangumudi estate in Valparai on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Selvaraj, who was residing in Kurangumudi estate. “He had left for the coffee estate on Sunday evening but did not reach there. The estate authorities contacted the family members and came to know that he had left for work. But they could not conduct a search as it was too dark. His wife Parimala Gandhi and her relatives started a search to find him on Monday morning and found his body. A team of forest department field staff from Manampalli range visited the spot and found that he was trampled to death by a wild elephant,” a police officer said.
The body was sent to the Pollachi Government Hospital for postmortem.

Meanwhile a group of DMK cadres besieged the Pollachi police station, demanding that the postmortem should be conducted in the Valparai Government Hospital. The ambulance carrying the body was called back and the postmortem was conducted in the Valparai hospital.
The body was later handed over to the family.
