After 3 yrs, educationist gets bail on med ground

Nagpur: After trying for over three years, controversial educationist Deepak Bajaj, facing disproportionate assets case apart from other charges, on Monday finally secured bail for two months on medical grounds.
The educationist is accused of having disproportionate assets and misusing his position as principal of Mahatma Gandhi Centennial School in Jaripatka. The ACB had booked Bajaj and his wife Veena under sections 13(1) E and 13 (20) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, while Jaripatka police had booked the couple under sections 406, 420, 438, 471, 34, 168, 120B, 201, 409, 467, 193 of IPC.
While allowing his application (No 415/19), Justice Manish Pitale granted him permission to undergo treatment in Mumbai. Bajaj had listed Breach Candy, Saifi and Bombay Hospital. He was also ordered to inform the police station under whose jurisdiction the hospital falls where he plans to take treatment.
Senior counsel Subodh Dharmadhikari, Chinmay Dharmadhikari and Uday Dable, appearing for the petitioner, were told to inform Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court about the entire treatment schedule.
Before adjourning the hearing for two months, till September, the HC directed concerned police station in Mumbai to keep a watch on Bajaj and monitor his treatment.
Earlier, assistant government pleader Neeraj Jawade submitted a health report which stated that Bajaj is suffering from 80% arterial blockages. Moreover, he is also suffering from ailments of kidney, heart and blood pressure, the report added.
Bajaj had moved HC after his bail plea was rejected by the ACB court. He was granted permission to undergo treatment in a speciality hospital while in judicial custody.

Bajaj had undergone a special X-ray test on March 8 at GMCH where it came to light that his arteries have 80% blockages. The GMCH doctors had advised him to undergo grafting surgery as he was diagnosed with other diseases and chronic kidney failure.
Bajaj approached the ACB court in May citing his critical heart condition and deteriorating health. The ACB court had allowed him to get admitted in New Era Hospital in Lakadganj for surgery and had told Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) dean to monitor his health condition. As he wanted treatment in a speciality hospital, Bajaj had then moved the HC.
