RAJKOT:
Two lions ventured into Ashrampara and Jinvadi localities on Mitiyala Road in Khambha of Amreli district and preyed upon four cows and a calf on Saturday night.
This was not the first time that the lions had ventured
into Khambha.
On June 21 and 22, lions entered into Anand Society and preyed on cows. While on June 22, three lions killed two cows, two lions killed three cows on the previous night on June 21.
On June 20, eight lions preyed upon nine cows when they prowled in different groups in Hansapara Society, Hadia Society, BPL Colony and Mahadevpara locality of Khambha.
Khambha is hemmed in from all sides by thick forest. It is a kind of concrete oasis of human habitation right in the middle of the lush green
jungle. Hence, it is not unusual for the big cats including lions and leopards to enter into the town.
“In monsoon, big cats’ appetite gets stimulated and they become more hungry than in the other seasons. In order to satiate their hunger, they prey on domestic animals which is easy and not unusual,” said a senior forest official.
