2020 Porsche Taycan Prototype Arrives In Shanghai For Its Chinese Debut

Porsche brought a late Taycan prototype to its Experience Center in Shanghai, marking it as the first time the German electric car is showcased in front of the public in China.

The lightly camouflaged prototype of the upcoming Porsche Taycan will make three appearances on three continents, including China, the UK and the US. Each appearance will be accompanied by a tribute graphic on the Taycan’s roof, with the prototype in Shanghai sporting a dragon.

Li Chao, a driver competing in Porsche’s Asian Carrerra Cup series, took the Taycan prototype for its first official demo laps at the handling track of the Porsche Experience Center in Shanghai.

“From uncompromisingly sporty to surprisingly comfortable, the chassis of the new Taycan covers a wide range and successfully combines the precise handling of a sports car and the long-distance comfort of a saloon. In addition to its low centre of gravity, the rear-axle steering also plays a crucial role,” said Li Chao.

Porsche has already confirmed some of the specs of its first battery-electric model; the upcoming Taycan will be capable of pulling a 0-62mph (100km/h) in just 3.5 seconds and a 0-124mph (200km/h) in less than 12 seconds. Top speed will be over 155mph (250km/h).

The electric Porsche is also scheduled to participate in the Hill Run at the Festival of Speed in Goodwood at the hands of Mark Webber, as well as make another demo at the season finale of the Formula E championship in New York at the hands of Neel Jani.

Porsche will reveal the new Taycan in its final production glory this September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
